October Newsletter

Issue 44

September 29th, 2019

Dear Guildies,

This is it! We are ready to celebrate our Guild's 10th anniversary.  There will be surprises,  a walk down to memory lane, some food (maybe, probably), some guests...  We can't wait to have you all around to celebrate 10 years of Modern quilting.
We can promise a very busy program, in addition to the celebrations, we do have some catch up to do after last month's cancelled meeting.  We are going to have two BOM drawing.  Bring September and October blocks.  You still have some time to sew a couple of blocks, and remember to keep one for yourself so you'll have your own 10th anniversary celebratory quilt at the end of the year.

Also, the registration deadline for the retreat is October 7th.  If you haven't yet secure your room follow this link.

Happy stitching,

Caroline Garnier Janny
Secretary

MEETING REMINDERS

    COMMUNITY OUTREACH
    Kelly Eskin

10 years! I can't believe this guild has been together and giving back to our community for 10 years.  What an accomplishment!  I know the guild has made a significant impact on my life, so I can only imagine how our guild has impacted our community.  I've been apart of the guild for 5 years and since then we have been involved in giving quilts to veterans, foster kids, children healing from a variety of pain and hurts, people with Alzheimer's, and we cannot forget the victims and those involved with the Pulse tragedy.  It is such a testament to the people in our guild.

With that in mind, keep working on those twin sized quilts for the Zebra Coalition.  We'd love to be able to give the organization 10 or so quilts in November.  Next month will be our team show and tell for Zebra Coalition.

The Festival of the Trees and QuiltCon subcommittees are working on getting their quilts finished.  I can't wait to see them both.

Thanks to all that made the Road to Tennessee blocks for our Call for Blocks. For the next two months, we will be giving out a special gift to the person that completes the most blocks.   Here is a link to the blog post with the instructions.     It really is a simple block - why not make 1 or 10 for the October and November meetings.

    PROGRAMMING
    Yanick Booz

In addition to the 10th anniversary celebration, we will have a Pin Cushion Parade.  If you have registered for the PinPal exchange, it is now time to bring your pin cushion to the meeting.  Place it in a brown bag, add a little note with something about yourself, your quilting, your pincushion.  Do you remember those penpal letters we wrote at school, they were sometimes awkward to write, but receiving them was so good.

If you have extra pincushions and you would like to enter them to the swap, please bring them.  We want to make sure we are matching Sarasota's numbers.

Please contact Ede or Yanick for any programming ideas, or send an email to orlandomodernquiltguild@gmail.com.

    MEMBER HIGHLIGHT

I am looking for members who would be willing to answer some questions about their creativity, their space, why they quilt or anything els.  I have some questions ready if it helps.  We are not looking for a long essay, but for lots of pictures.

Please contact me if you are willing to share with us.
