November BOM - Florida Ocean Wave

This month Blok is brought to you by Love.

You will need 2 fabrics:

  • Ocean blue (blue, green, aqua...) in small print, solid, tone on tone;
  • White, solid or white on white.

Cutting:

Ocean
White
3” square
8
2
4” square
4
3

Step 1: Making Half Square Triangles (HST) using 3 Ocean and 3 White 4" squares
  • Place 2 squares, one of each colour, right side together.  Mark a diagonal across the top square.
  • Sew a 1/4" away on each side of the diagonal.
  • Cut the unit in half on the diagonal.  Open the unit and trim to a 3" square.
  • Reserve 5 of those HST

Step 2: Making the Hourglass block
  • Pair the remaining HST with  the remaining 4" Ocean square (note that the Ocean square is slightly larger than the HST)
  • Right side together, alining the smaller square to 2 edges of the bigger one.
  • Draw a diagonal across the HST (perpendicular to the previously sewn line, see picture below).
  • Sew a 1/4 away from the marked line (only on one side).  Cut on the line, open the unit.

  • Time to trim. With the 45 degree angle line of your ruler on top of the diagonal of the unit, align the edge with the 3" mark, trim.
  • Rotate the unit, repeat the process to obtain a 3" square.

Step 3: Assemble the Florida Ocean Wave according to the diagram.

Your block will measure 10 1/2".

  2. This looks like a fun activity for your chapter. (Testing my ability to comment on your Blogspot account, and it looks like it's working. December 2, 2018, 3:35 pm.)
