General Meeting
Orlando Modern Quilt Guild
December 4, 2021
Meeting opened at 1:33 pm at the Sewing Studio
President Ede Nault welcomed everyone and asked Member- at -Large, Love Sullivan to introduce guests. Three guests were present.
Ede said there were batting sample cards available at the table for anyone to have and use.
Ede reported the January meeting will be virtual at 10:0 am on Wednesday, Jan 5, and we have a guest speaker, Juanita Yeager for a lecture and trunk show.
February’s meeting will be a type of tips and techniques meeting. Jolyn and Jane Allingham will be doing demos, and we need a few other members to provide demos. Please let Ede know if you can assist.
The Maitland Sew Day, first Monday after the general meeting has continued, but with limited attendance. It was suggested that an announcement with RSVP and additional publicity about the event help assist so that more members are aware , and we will know who would be attending.
Finance – Chair Kathy Aber reported that we had expenses for the month included under budget expenses ($372.87) for the retreat, and the current bank balance is $7,942.46. She also passed out MQG pins for those members who had not received them yet.
Kathy sold tickets for the quilty basket, provided by the last winner member Suzanne Plasse. The winner was Debbe King.
Community Outreach Report – Chair Sue Kenard said that the outreach projects are due to be turned in preferably by Exchange Day on January 10, with the February meeting the absolute last turn in day. This includes taggies, pillowcases and Incubator quilts. Sue showed an incubator quilt that was recently completed, and the Quilt Con entry quilt.
The QuiltCon quilt will be donated to the Zebra Coalition in Orlando. Paula Kennedy will be photographing the quilt after the meeting to submit to the Modern Quilt Guild.
Education – Chair Marge Cree provided information about the speaker in January, Juanita Yeager, and the upcoming speaker, Lauren Austin of https://thatblackgirlart.com/gallery for March, 2022.
She requested that members send in suggestions for speakers and teachers to arrange for the 2022 year.
Door Prizes were awarded; winners were Samantha Foster, Sue Kenard and Debbie Manuel.
Programming _ Ashley Gottshalk gave an informative program about Japanese wrapping technique, Fukushima. She recommended a website she researched :

Gifts of fat quarters were distributed to members and gift exchange between members. Gift exchange was a small quilty gifts in a paper towel roll and exchanged between members .
