June Meeting Minutes

Minutes of General Board Meeting
Orlando Modern Quilt Guild
June 3, 2020

Meeting was opened at 10:05 am
President Ede Nault opened the meeting and welcomed everyone on the Zoom virtual format

President – Ede Nault

Ede reported that there have been a few issues using codes for Zoom and apologized for any confusion. Members are using their own Zoom accounts for the sew days; there is no account available from the guild. She thanked all members that are willing to use their own account.

She also mentioned that Bluprint (formally Craftsy) is going out of business and just thought it wise to mention to members that if they have downloadable patterns or classes they are encouraged to do so before the site is unavailable.

She also reported that there is a new feature in the newsletter, the “quarantine diaries,” It’s just a fun way to keep up on what members have been doing during the quarantine time. If you would like to participate please email member at large Love Sullivan with your quarantine diary!

A short video was presented by Kelsey from the Sewing Studio, our usual meeting site hosts.

Vice President – Debra Jalbert

Debra Jalbert thanked Paula for work on the newsletter this month. She screen-shared the newsletter for the It’s a Wrap section and the Mystery Quilt regarding information on those challenges. Debra mentioned that virtual sew days are coming up and that the Zoom meeting code would be sent to members in an email before the sew day.

On June 24 from 7 to 8 PM there will be a virtual discussion with members of the guild who are longarmers. This was a topic that was brought up last year on the survey, so there are some questions that have already been pre-set for the longarmer’s discussion, but if anyone has a question, they should email it to Debra. There will also be a chat option on the Zoom meeting call.  Ede mentioned that she shared a recipe in the newsletter.

Yanick discussed the block of the month tutorial. It is an improv tutorial with strips inspired by Victoria Finley Wolfe. Yanick provided a link to the instructions on the blog. There will be three different sizes and hopefully they can pick more winners if there are lots of blocks made for the challenge. Colors should be bright colors, with no neutrals. She also asked that everybody answer a survey question that is on the blog post regarding the mailing of BOM since we are not meeting in person right now.

Secretary -Paula Kennedy

Secretary Paula Kennedy reported that the YouTube Channel will only be accessible through a direct link and meetings and posting videos will not be searchable; it is designated as “hidden” on YouTube. If anyone has missed the link, or needs it, one can be sent through email. ( this has since been updated since the meeting and videos will not be hidden, but made public )

She also said that the directory will be going out next week and that each member is responsible for verifying their information. Kathy Aber has gone through the changes from the membership forms, but please check your information when you get the first copy of the directory- any necessary corrections will be made.

Please send any photos of completed projects to Paula to be shown in the July Virtual slide show, or hashtag it #orlandomqgshowandtell.

Community Outreach – Sue Kenard

Sue Kenard , Community Outreach reported that placemat collection has dwindled down a little but mostly because we have not been meeting in person to collect them. Several people are still making masks. She asked members once again to keep track of the masks they are making, and a survey of the guild will be done to keep some kind of track of how many masks were donated from our members.

Sue also announced the new community outreach initiative for this year; it will be baby quilts to be made for children in the foster care system ages birth to three years. It is a faith -based initiative by Summit Church. Any size baby quilts, and any type are acceptable. Sharleen Jespersen had the original contact and has been working with Sue on this project. They will be collecting and storing the quilts as they are made; Sue is anticipating a major drop off of the quilts in November.

Sue also mentioned that at the moment the QuiltCon quilt is on hold, but the Festival of Trees quilt is a definite possibility. The Orlando Museum of Art is still dealing with how to put on the Festival of Trees and would be greatly appreciative of the Guild’s donation of a quilt for their fundraising efforts.

Education- Marge Cree

Marge reported that most teachers and workshop instructors are trying to figure out how to go virtual and take their classes online.  Amy Friend will not be traveling to Orlando in August for our original slated class, so she is trying to come up with a solution. Currently Jackie Gering and Rayna Gilman are on the schedule for next year. More information will come as situations with the instructors develop. A special surprise is in store for a guild educational opportunity in August.

Ede showed sewing room videos that have been contributed by members including Karol Evans, Linda Casey and Caroline Garnier.

          New Business - Programming

The meeting then moved onto programming, which Yanick presented this month. It was a wonderful program on Japanese quilting and cypher quilts by Yoshiko Jinzengi.

She led a wonderful PowerPoint program and introduced us to this amazing woman and her art. She provided links and told us about books that were available. A few members in the chat room of the virtual meeting mentioned that they had books by this artist, and they would be happy to let anyone borrow them. Debra and Yanick both confirmed that three months of our general programming is about Japanese quilting.

Ede introduced the slideshow of the Show and Tell photos that members have sent in. The slideshow of Show and Tell will be a separate entry on the YouTube channel for members to view.

Debra asked for any members that have ideas for programming she would love to hear from you, and anyone who is willing to do a program please let her know. It would be greatly appreciated for anyone who can contribute.

Meeting was adjourned at 11:01 AM
Respectfully submitted,
Paula Kennedy

Meeting Minutes - November 2016

MEETING MINUTES
Wednesday, November 2, 2016
Maitland, FL

President Alissa called the meeting to order; 52 members and 1 guest were present.

THE HOUSE NEXT DOOR QUILT SHOW

Alissa introduced Gail Hallmon, Operations Director of The House Next Door, and the quilt show organized by Charity Coordinator Sharleen with Emcee Frank, and models Alejandrina, Beth, Jane, Karol, Leslie, Marge and Sarah. Sharleen reported that beyond our goal of making 70 quilts for this annual charity project, she had received 89 or 90 quilts, including those coming in today, to go to The House Next Door.

Gail spoke about the SAT, Sex Abuse Treatment Program at The House Next Door in a program for child victims of abuse from babies to age 18. She said they have 10-15 new cases each month, 160 last year in two counties. She said that their staff work not just with the children but also with non-abusing caregivers including traumatized parents. Gail said each child chooses their quilt at the first counseling session and brings it back to each session for comfort, part of what they call their “stitched with love and care project.”

Models then carried each quilt down the center “runway” and around to show the front and back to the members before they were given to Gail to take to The House Next Door.

TREASURER’S REPORT

Joan asked all new members to come to her for their new member gift and guild pin, if they hadn’t already received them, noting how many new members have joined over the summer. She thanked Marge, former Treasurer, for filling in for her since July, not only on the usual duties but keeping track of the funds related to the Quilts for Pulse project. She had checks to refund all money deposited by members for the retreat, which had to be cancelled. She noted that October’s Raffle Basket brought in $64, an all-time high. With that and only one membership as income and refund of $3,591 in retreat deposits, it was a month in the negative leaving the guild with a balance of $12,074.

EDUCATION

Education Coordinator Ede reported that our next class is a dyeing class from Frank on January 7, 2017 at Alissa’s house. The class costs $60 and is limited to 12 students, who will each take home 8 yards of fabric. Frank has offered to teach the class a second time if there is enough demand, so let Ede know by email if you would be interested in taking the dyeing class at a later date.
Ede reported that Mary-Jeanine, a Sewing Studio teacher who offered to teach two classes free to guild members who helped with the Pulse project, will teach those at the Dr. Phillips Library on February 4, 2017, with sign up at the December guild meeting. Ede said everyone can sign up for both classes noting their preference, because there will probably not be space in the classes for anyone to take more than one; she will try to give people their first choice. See descriptions and pictures of the class samples in the newsletter that went out by email yesterday (November 1).
MANCUSO WORLD QUILT FLORIDA

The guild has accepted the invitation of the Mancuso Show to have a display of quilts at the World Quilt Florida show in Orlando in January. Tanyia is in charge of gathering quilts from members, which should be modern quilts and must have a 4” hanging sleeve; there is no size requirement. Anyone wishing to show a quilt there should contact Tanyia by email – even if you have before - to be sure she has everyone. Email Debra if you are interested in details on how to enter your quilt in the show rather than in our guild’s display.

MAITLAND SEW DAY – MONDAY 11-7-16

Alissa reported that the Maitland Library Sew Day next Monday will be one at which we hope a number of people will help sew labels into Pulse quilts. Mary Sm will bring about 55, and Alisa will bring about 108, because we only have 163 labels (400 more have been ordered). They will be late to Sew Day, because there is a guild board meeting at 9:30 at the First Watch on 17-92 in Maitland.

RAFFLE BASKET

Rebecca, who won the Raffle Basket last month, returned it filled with items, including a fabric, jumbo Wonder Clips, a tin of special Fons & Porter directional pins, a mini charm pack and other things. The basket was won by Patty.

UFO LOG

Kelly asked everyone to check the UFO log, to be sure it is correct as to which UFO projects members have finished. She reminded everyone that prizes are given at our December Holiday Party with one entry in the drawings per UFO finished. There will be a prize for the member who has completed the most UFOs and another for a random drawing winner, so you can win a prize with just one finished UFO.

GUILD LIBRARY

Guild Librarian Yanick usually brings requested books to meetings, which members have asked to check out; she was absent this month, so Tanyia brought them. The book list is available at the website. Books may be checked out for a month at meetings and must be returned at the following month’s meeting.  Tanyia mentioned that we have 3 new books, and Mary W. donated another one signed by Gwen Marston during Show N Tell.

GUILD T-SHIRTS

Alissa asked members at the last meeting to help design guild t-shirts that members can purchase by submitting their ideas, but so far only Alexis has sent her ideas for things to be printed on t-shirts along with our logo, so she invites all members to email their ideas to her before next Monday. The board will discuss t-shirts at their next meeting, where Alissa will present costs and information on online ordering possibilities (11-7-16).

HOLIDAY PARTY

The guild’s Holiday Party will be at the December Dr. Phillips Library Sew Day, which is December 17th.  It will be a potluck. We will have a swap that day, so please bring a wrapped pincushion for the exchange. Beth suggested having an exchange at the Maitland Sew Day, too, for those who don’t attend the one at Dr. Phillips Library; Alissa said the board will discuss it next week.

PAT EYER MEMORIAL SERVICE

Alissa mentioned that Pat Eyer’s memorial service will be this Friday morning. See yesterday’s emailed guild newsletter for more information.

LUNCH

Lunch for those who want to eat together will be at the Olive Garden on 17-92 in Winter Park.

QUILTCON CHARITY QUILT

Alissa asked that anyone who has blocks for the QuiltCon charity quilt let her know they have them and get them to her within the next week or so, so they can be put together. Nancy S. has volunteered to quilt it. It will be entered in a special exhibit of QuiltCon charity quilts at QuiltCon 2017 in Savannah, GA, in February and returned to the guild afterwards for donation to a local nonprofit.

Tanyia reported that the quilt top made of members’ blocks for donation to the Orlando Museum of Art’s Council of 101’s Festival of Trees has been quilted by Nancy S. for this year’s Festival of Trees, November 12-20. It was shown during Show N Tell.

QUILTS FOR PULSE  PROJECT

Alissa reported that the project is finally winding down, although she just received 2 more quilts. She said 1,100 quilts have been labeled and photographed with more ready to photograph. About 1,000 quilts have been requested by organizations with a number of those distributed already this month (130 to Orlando Fire Department, 230 to OUAC for the injured and loved ones of those who died, 100 to the Legal Aid of Orange County Bar Association, which supplied a lawyer for each of 100 people after the shooting to deal with a variety of issues). Some quilts have been requested for individuals and delivered or mailed to them, including one to a young woman in the mayor’s office who checked the spelling of each victim name in all of the many releases about the Pulse shootings (requested for her by her mother), among others.

Other distributions have been planned by Alejandrina, Sarah and Yanick, including 71 to 911 operators, 60 to Orlando Health and 104 to Florida Hospital for medical personnel, and 200 for an event at the Abbey or the Mez, both in the Sanctuary building at 100 S. Eola, downtown Orlando, at which Mayor Buddy Dyer will be presented with a special Pulse quilts. Nancy, whose daughter owns the Abbey announced that the Abbey or Mez event on 12-13-16 will include press coverage, a display of the Pulse quilts, and distribution to 50 Pulse employees. The official event will be 5-7 pm but there will probably be an earlier open house for Pulse employees who have to go to work. More details will be provided as we get them.

Nancy also noted that the Come Out With Pride Parade, which was postponed due to Hurricane Matthew, will take place on Saturday 11-12-16 at 4 pm downtown, and our Pulse quilts will be featured on the Thornton Park float. You can find the parade route at the Come Out With Pride website, comeoutwithpride.com.

Alissa said to pass along suggestions for additional recipients, such as Mary W’s suggestion of staff at the Hampton Inns & Suites where many of the families met in the aftermath, to Alejandrina and her committee (Sarah and Yanick) to be considered with others not on our current distribution list.

Alissa said about 60 quilts have been sent to non-member volunteers to be quilted and there are more quilts out to guild members to be completed, including 10 she will longarm. Some quilts were available for members to take for quilting and binding after the meeting.

Betty asked if someone has contacted the Orange County Regional History Center, which is collecting information and memorial objects related to the shooting. Alissa said no one has contacted them yet and we need to follow up on that.

Paula will be at Sew Monday to take all labeled, ready-to-go quilts to her studio to be photographed. Jeff asked, and Alissa said the QR code on the label is supposed to link to the guild’s website. Leslie was taking a count during the meeting to try to locate all quilts that are still out with members for finishing, since we have had trouble keeping a strict count. It was noted that we now have 1700 note cards for thank you notes.

Alissa reported that she will do a blog post when everything is done, probably in January, to try to quantify everything – amount of fabric, amount spent on shipping quilts to us, time spent by so many volunteers, the number of hands quilts passed through before distribution, number of packages received (1500), number of hours spent on this project.

BLOCK OF THE MONTH

This month’s Blocks of the Month were made from Jodi’s pattern and were won by Jackie. Patty presented next month’s Block of the Month, which are ornaments. Someone suggested having two Blocks of the Month, because we have over 100 members now, but we only get 20-24 blocks a month now so not enough to split.

WETTERLING FAMILY QUILTS

At last month’s meeting, Kate invited members to make blocks (or quilt tops or quilts) for her project of making at least 4 quilts for the family (parents and 3 siblings) of Jacob Wetterling, whose remains were recently found after a confession was made to his murder; he had disappeared as a child in Minnesota in 1989. Instructions for the blocks or quilts requested at her site at https://www.instragram.com/toughkittencrafts. She has received 29 blocks so far and would like any others at the December meeting.

GUILD BANNER

Alissa reported that she has received some suggestions of Orlando icons to be included in the design of a guild banner. That will be discussed at the board meeting next Monday.

October Meeting Minutes

-->
 MEETING MINUTES
Wednesday, October 5, 2016 – 10:00 am
Maitland, FL

President Alissa called the meeting to order; 51 members and 5 guests were present. She invited new members to introduce themselves, but there were no new members today. As an icebreaker, Alissa passed out paper and asked members to name icons that might be suitable for a guild banner, which Debra has volunteered to design.

TREASURER’S REPORT

Marge, former Treasurer filling in for Joan, reported on receipts and expenses resulting in a balance of over $13,000. As a separate account, the Quilts for Pulse project has received donations of over $6,600 and, after expenses such as purchasing backing and batting, there is a balance of approximately $1,500 for the Pulse project for ongoing expenses.

EDUCATION

Education Coordinator Ede reported that Christa Watson, who taught a class for the guild two weekends ago, donated a copy of her new book (The Ultimate Guide to Machine Quilting: Long-Arm and Sit-Down--Learn When, Where, Why, and How to Finish Your Quilts, co-authored with Angela Walter) to our guild library.
Our next class is a dying class from member Frank on January 7, 2017. She said it is a fantastic opportunity, because he is providing the fabric, dyes, other supplies, so it is a way to try dyeing without a huge investment. The class will cost $60, after the guild subsidizes some of the cost; it is limited to 12 students. Those attending will only need to bring some items such as rubber gloves. The class will be at Alissa’s house in Deland. Signup will be at the November meeting, so bring a check to lock in your spot if you want to sign up. There will be a lottery for places, if necessary, and, if there is enough demand, Frank might teach it a second time.
Next will be two days of classes from Jackie Gering March 17-18, 2017; Ede will request that she offer two different classes. Jackie will give a trunk show at The Sewing Studio on Sunday, March 19, 1:00 pm, at a small charge to members and a higher charge to others.
Ede encourages anyone interested in classes that are full to sign up on the wait list in case of cancellations; she says that often one or more on the wait list get in. Ede also reported that Shannon Brinkley will teach a class in May and Amanda Jean Nyberg will teach a class in September next year.

MANCUSO WORLD QUILT FLORIDA

The guild has accepted the invitation of the Mancuso Show to have a display of quilts at the World Quilt Florida show in Orlando again in January. Tanyia volunteered to be in charge of gathering quilts from members, which should be modern quilts. Those wishing to show a quilt there should contact Tanyia by email. There is no size requirement but all quilts need to have a hanging sleeve. Alissa mentioned the possibility of including a group of Pulse quilts as part of the guild’s display.

GUILD LIBRARY

Yanick brings books to meetings, which members have asked to check out. The book list is available at the website. Books may be checked out for a month at meetings and must be returned at the following month’s meeting.

UFO LOG

In Kelly's absence, Alissa announced that members may list their UFOs in the guild’s UFO log and let Kelly E. know when each has been completed. Prizes are given at our December holiday party with one entry in the drawings per UFO finished. There will be a prize for the member who has completed the most UFOs and another for a random drawing winner.

HOLIDAY PARTY

The guild’s holiday party has previously been at the December Dr. Phillips Sew Day, which is December 17 this year. The Board is considering other options, will decide at its next meeting and announce the details in November.

QUILTCON CHARITY QUILT

Members returned the small brown bags of finished blocks for the guild’s QuiltCon 2017 charity quilt. Any that weren’t returned today can be given to Alissa at next Monday’s Maitland Sew Day or mailed to her. Nancy S. has volunteered to quilt it. It will be entered in a special exhibit of QuiltCon charity quilts at QuiltCon 2017 in Savannah, GA, in February, and returned to the guild afterwards for donation to a local nonprofit.

FESTIVAL OF TREES QUILT

Tanyia reported that the quilt top made of members’ blocks for donation to the Orlando Museum of Art’s Council of 101’s Festival of Trees, which were turned in last month, will be completed this weekend and quilted by Nancy S. by the end of October for this year’s Festival of Trees, November 12-20.

RAFFLE BASKET

Kathy, who won the Raffle Basket last month, returned it filled with items, including a cute tin full of fat quarters, special quilters’ soap, a needle threader, a quilting magazine and book, a bag pattern and other things. The basket was won by Rebecca.

GUILD T-SHIRTS

Alissa would like members to help design guild t-shirts that members can purchase, so please email her with any ideas for pictures, sayings, etc., to be printed on t-shirts along with our logo. The board will discuss it at their next meeting. She hopes to find an online site where members can purchase the style they want without the guild having to purchase and resell them. Many would like to have t-shirts in time for QuiltCon in February 2017.

QUILTS FOR PULSE  PROJECT

Alissa reported that the project is finally tapering off, although things are still trickling in. She thanks everyone and said how much she appreciates all the work that everyone has done. She pointed out Jodi and Leslie at the back of the room, where they were receiving finished quilts and giving out quilt kits for quilting and binding.

Alissa reported that the guild has been working on 450 quilts, assembling donated blocks into tops and quilting and binding tops both made and received, and she thanked everyone for all of their work completing those. The guild has received between1,300 and 1,400 finished quilts, and Alissa said that, when she had over 1,000 quilts in her house at one time, she posted a video of them on Instagram. She also thanked Paula, who is photographing each quilt.

She noted that 1,000 of the quilts have been spoken for, requested by the organizations representing those impacted by the Pulse shootings with which the committee of Alejandrina, Yannick, and Sarah have been in contact. Because we have more than enough quilts for current requests, finishing the rest can take until mid-November. We expect that other organizations and individuals we don’t yet know about will request quilts after the first distributions are done.

New member Nancy J. has taken 10 quilts to be displayed on a float in the Come Out with Pride Parade this Saturday, October 8, 4 pm, which goes around Lake Eola and Orange Avenue in downtown Orlando. Although the parade may be postponed due to Hurricane Matthew, it has not been yet and the quilts will be on the float on schedule or when the parade takes place if postponed.

Paula asked that volunteers sign up on a sheet she passed to help at photo shoots, unfolding and folding quilts and pinning on the care cards and ColorCatchers. When quilts are completed and have been photographed, they will be picked up at Paula’s studio by the groupsdistributing them to the organizations on our list. Paula said she photographs about 100 quilts per session and has photographed 649 so far. She plans to set up one session a week lasting 1-1/2 to 3 hours. Rene documents each quilt as it is photographed. Paula also mentioned how fun it is to see all of the quilts in each session, some with special letters and notes or labels attached.

Some members and others have requested quilts for impacted individuals. Anyone who wants to do that, please email the information to Alissa, who is willing to mail them the quilt, and let Alejandrina know so they are included in the record of all quilts donated by the guild.

So far Alissa, with Patti documenting each package, has received 1,467 packages. Just lately she received 3 from Italy and we’ve received quilts from 23 countries and all 50 states. The Giving List of organizations to which we’re donating includes the surviving victims and loved ones of those who died (230 quilts that will be distributed by an arm of United Way created to help them), 2 hospitals, numerous law enforcement organizations including UCF police, 911 operators, EMTs, fire departments, and 3 rough donated quilts are going to the bomb-sniffing dogs in law enforcement canine units. Alissa mentioned that we do not yet have a contact for Pulse employees, and she is waiting to hear from someone she has attempted to contact to get a number of quilts to that group as well.

Debbe King needs a photo of the quilt proposed to go to Mayor Buddy Dyer, to send to her City Hall contact, and Paula will email it to her. That quilt has the Orlando skyline with 49 colorful hearts above it representing the 49 who were killed that morning. If the Mayor accepts it, his office may want a presentation in November. Debbie wondered if some of the quilts not yet distributed might be displayed as public art in City Hall and will inquire about it. As mentioned above, Alissa suggested some be displayed at World Quilt Florida in January.

Alissa has been in tough with the national Modern Quilt Guild. They plan a Quilts for Pulse event for QuiltCon 2018, but that seems too distant in time to thank the many donors who will be there, so she has requested from someone at the Modern Quilt Guild space and time for a Meet & Greet at QuiltCon 2017 in Savannah in February where people can meet us and we can thank them for their response.

Alexis has scanned all of the notes and letters that arrived with packages of donated quilts and blocks, which she is now editing to remove or cover personal information so that collection can be posted and probably donated to the Orange County Regional History Center, which is collecting public memorials to the victims.

Alissa plans to use the business cards sent with quilts to create a list of businesses the guild can use to try to do business with those who have donated to this project when we have the opportunity.

Alejandrina was working on dates for distribution to these groups, but she lives on the coast and is currently evacuating her home because of Hurricane Matthew, which may set things back a week. There is a firefighter event on October 12th, when the shift which was on duty at the time of the Pulse shootings will be present, but that is the only date we have so far.

OTHER CHARITY PROJECTS

Charity Coordinator Sharleen reported that our House Next Door annual charity project had a goal of 70 quilts due by the November meeting, when someone will be here to receive the quilts. She has now received 75, including those given to her at today’s meeting.

DEMONSTRATION

Alissa demonstrated ice dyeing. She put a rack in a plastic bin on which she put a rolled or twisted length of damp Kona white fabric (Tanyia did this with Kona ready-to-dye white fabric), poured ice over it (the more ice, the less coverage of dye later), then sprinkled on powdered teal Procion dye. Tanyia said Rit worked as well and any powdered dye works. You leave it 4-24 hours for the ice to melt slowly, wear rubber gloves to rinse (or your hands will be dyed), and rinse a lot, to create an interesting piece something like tie-dyed fabric. You can use Synthropol or other things, like salt or vinegar, to set the color. See Youtube.com videos for more information. Solid color dye will give you spots of various colors. [Mary So recommended using a mask when using any powdered dye.]

LUNCH

The group meeting for lunch after the guild meeting was going to the Olive Garden across from Winter Park Village on 17-92.

BLOCK OF THE MONTH

This month’s Blocks of the Month were made from Kate’s pumpkin pattern and were won by Paula. Jodi presented next month’s Block of the Month. She will post a tutorial for this scrap-busting block on the blog.

RETREAT REPORT

Alissa reported that the board has cancelled the November 3-6 retreat, because the Kenilworth Lodge in Sebring was condemned by the Fire Department early in the summer and is not yet open. The owner is seeking an injunction allowing the hotel to open so it has income with which to make the repairs, but while anyone is free to go to the Kenilworth and sew together, of course, the guild does not any longer sanction an event there because of the safety issue. Alissa called other retreat sites but has not found another available until spring. Any members who have pre-paid for the retreat should email Joan, who will refund their money when she is back in Florida in several weeks.

WETTERLING FAMILY QUILTS

Kate has invited members to make blocks (or quilt tops or quilts) for her project of making at least 4 quilts for the family (parents and 3 siblings) of Jacob Wetterling. Kate said efforts of his family led to the first sex offender registration laws, after his disappearance in Minnesota in 1989. The family is coping with the new information that he was murdered as well as kidnapped, due to the recent confession by his killer and locating of his remains. Kate is posting instructions for the blocks or quilts requested at her site https://toughkittencrafts.wordpress.com/ She would like blue or white-beige-cream blocks in any design. She will also accept donations of yardage for backs. She is contact Colorado guilds for help as well, because Jacob’s brother (married to Kate’s cousin) lives there. She would like blocks at the December meeting, whole quilts in January. She thanked the guild for its warmth to her after she spoke about this situation last month, when she was showing this month’s Block of the Month. Jan gave her a red teddy bear at this meeting, which she made for her after hearing the story last month.

SHOW AND TELL

As part of Show and Tell, in addition to all of the wonderful quilts shown by members, the Lake County quilt guild showed 3 quilts it is donating for the Pulse project, and Alissa showed us the mermaid tail she made in a recent class.

NAME TAG CHALLENGE

Because of the many new members, Alissa asked at the last meeting that each member make a name tag and wear it to meetings as we get better acquainted. A number of members modeled their new name tags.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:25.
