Orlando Modern Quilt Guild
January 5, 2022
Meeting opened at 10:04 am on Zoom
President Ede Nault welcomed members and asked for all members to stay on Zoom after the speaker’s program for important business of the guild.
Sue Kenard, Community Outreach Chair reported that Exchange Day would be January 10,
not the regular third Monday. All outreach projects should be turned in by that day, or at the in -person meeting in March.
Dawn Vanderwolf reported that the last Solar Flare Zoom meeting would be January 19th at 2:00 pm, and to have finished (or not finished) Solar Flare projects to show at the March in person meeting
Pamela Edwards reported that the Machine Embroidery group will meet January 13 and 27th on Zoom. The group will be starting a project called Stack Christmas Tree, by Kreative Kiwi, and it will be a learning project before they start an embroidered in the hoop nutcracker.
Ede asked members for “quilty resolutions” and several members stated their intentions for 2022!
The speaker, Juanita Yeager gave a trunk show of her work; questions and comments followed.
Marge mentioned to the members before the program that Juanita Yeager was the very first speaker of the newly formed Orlando Modern Quilt Guild over 10 years ago and thanked her for her generous contribution.
After the speaker, the business meeting continued.
The slate of officers for 2022-2023 was announced, a vote was taken and passed to accept the slate. The officers for 2022-2023 are:
Marge Cree – President
Cara Dobrev, Vice President, Programming
Community Outreach, Kathy Aber
Treasurer, Pamela Edwards
Secretary, Dawn Vanderwolf
Member at Large, Paula Kennedy
Education Chair still needs to be filled; please let the guild know if you are interested.
It was announced by Ede that after much thought and deliberation by the current and upcoming boards, the Guild will meet every other month for 2022- 2023 year. Sew Days at Maitland will continue every month, and other locations for an additional sew day are being considered.
Because there was not enough participation in the nominating process or members stepping forward to take positions, it was necessary to reduce the number of meetings so the incoming board can keep up with programming. The new board is attempting to have a guest speaker at least four of the six meetings, and asked members to please give suggestions of speakers or teachers.
Dues shall be going back up to the previous $55.00 before the pandemic.
A few questions by members were posed and answered regarding dues and programming.
Meeting adjourned at 11:54 am
Respectfully Submitted,
Paula Kennedy
Secretary
