August 2021 Newsletter

Issue 64

Well, you know what they say about best laid plans......I looked up the original Robert Burns quote about best laid plans:  “the best-laid schemes o'mice an' men
Gang aft agley
.” I'd say gang aft agley is the perfect description of our mental states after the last year.

We WILL be back together in the same room soon--but as you read in last week's email, it won't be in August.  We will be back on Zoom on Wednesday, Aug 11, at 10 am as usual.  Hang on to those gallon-sized baggies full of scraps--we'll have Scrapapalooza at a later date.

And as you may have seen on our social media accounts, Jacquie Gering has decided, sadly, that she doesn't feel comfortable traveling to FL due to the Covid resurgence, which is understandable.  We haven't decided our best course of action moving forward with her yet.  We're discussing a virtual class, or rescheduling her in person at a later date.  We appreciate your patience as we figure this out. Keep an eye out for emails/social media posts with updates.

In better news, the Maitland Library is still willing to resume in-person Sew Days.  The first one will be this Monday, Aug 9.  We are still coordinating future dates and will let you know them asap.

I look forward to seeing all your (tiny, in a Zoom box) faces on Wednesday!  In the meantime, stay safe and well,  and find comfort in making something beautiful!

Ede

Change in Plans

The Jacquie Gering workshop coming up in September has had a change in plans.  Jacquie will not be able to attend in person, so alternative options are being explored.

If you have paid for a class, or even were still considering signing up for a class, please hold tight , more information regarding the changes will be available soon.

Options may include a rescheduling of the date of the classes, or possible online class availability.

Thank you for your patience!

Marge

One of our members has made the news !

                REMEMBRANCE OF LIFE

African American lives were taken unjustly by lynching under
Jim Crow Laws and later by mass incarceration in the United States.
Bryan Stevenson, Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI),
                located in Montgomery, Alabama,
started a collection of dirt where African Americans were lynched and mass incarcerated.
The dirt was placed in jars and labeled with the person’s name and location.
The different colors of jars are due to the dirt’s original diverse locations.
This quilt is a small representation of the EJI project.
