October Meeting Minutes

General Meeting 

October 3, 2018 10am

President Sarah welcomed new members and guest.

Jane - Ice Breaker

With the winter holidays around the corner, our December meeting will be the holiday party and Sew Day groups can also plan a celebration and gift exchange if they would like. Each group should decide on plans and share with Jane or Ashley so it can be shared in newsletter.
For the December Guild Meeting bring a handmade item that fits in a brown paper lunch bag. Some ideas generated during the icebreaker were: pin cushions, mug rugs, zipper pouches, fabric postcard, ornaments, oven mitts, jewelry, sunglass case, thread catcher, nametag, placemats, etc.


First Annual Multi-Guild Tea with Florida Cabin Fever Quilt Guild, rsvp by October 13th, show n tell, October 20th.

Members were interviewed by a Lakemary Lifestyle Magazine reporter at sew days. They are doing a feature about local arts groups in the November issue and the guild will be included.

The Fall Fiber Festival at the library was very busy, with a lot of variety in arts. It was nice to have a booth and be represented to the community.

Maitland Rotary Festival is November 17th -18th and we are looking for members to participate in a setup similar to the Waterhouse Exhibit.

Maitland Library Exhibit is in January and quilts will be displayed during the month.

Lake Mary Historical Museum Fiber Art Festival - The intent is to show folk art is still alive and modern. The exhibit is early January to early February to showcase quilts with a possible demo. A online sign-up for this and the Maitland Library Exhibit will be emailed.

Elections for 2019 are coming up. It you are interested in serving on the nomination committee tell board member.

At the December meeting #2 will be due.

Programming - Paula
The November meeting will be a brainstorming session for 2019 theme and programs.
It will be a New year, a new board and we want to get a headstart on programming. So bring your ideas for next year.

Community Outreach
Kathy and Sue are still delivering placemats - over 70 turned in last month and 111 have been given to each county

Festival of Trees Show n Tell is at the November meeting.
Samaritan Village Show n Tell
These will be presented to the residents.





Their Annual fundraiser is at 1st Presbyterian October 25th.
Assisted Living - make a lap quilt to donate to people in wheel chairs, 3 ways to help, volunteer, quilt for trunk show on loan, or make to quilts to give to residents. See the October Newsletter for more details.

QuiltCon quilt is with the quilter and will be at Show n Tell in November.
Two quilts were sent to the NC hurricane request.

Retreat - check newsletter for info. Some games will be a jelly roll race, strip poker, Christmas fat quarter LRC game
