Monthly Programming
Paula Kennedy

Part 2 of The Color Challenge will be a discussion of how we choose color in our quilting projects.
This month continues the Paintbrush Fabrics Color Theory Challenge!

Paintbrush Studios #pbstudiofabrics has graciously donated beautiful fabric for each member for a mini quilt challenge. It will run for two months, with the reveals at November's meeting. Look for updates and progress on social media.

A Storm is Coming … a Brainstorm!

In November, the monthly programming committee will be leading a brainstorm session
after the business portion of the meeting.

In moving forward to the next programming year, (2019-2020) it is important to get input
from all of our members to find out what ideas and passions are from you, our members, so
they can be considered and implemented.

It's been a great year so far with the Skill -Building theme. We still have some great meetings
through Feb. 2019, and want to be ready to hand off great ideas and a plan for the next board!

All meeting topics will be considered, as well as project ideas, monthly teachers, speakers, trunk shows
field trips, specific skills, or simply fun and fellowship building ideas.

Please assist us and bring your brain … to the brainstorm!

Handmade Gift Exchange

At the December monthly meeting, Dec 5th, there will be a handmade gift exchange in addition to overall festive fun….it's the holidays after all !
It is optional to participate, but the more the merrier!  All items must be handmade with love and care :) and fit in a brown bag.

There might still be additional handmade exchanges at the monthly Sew Day groups, (Maitland, Oviedo, and Dr.  Phillips…. more fun!) but we just didn’t want to leave anyone out who doesn’t get to attend those sew days … so get your idea ready … and hand-make it !

November Retreat  Nov 9th – 12th

Members, don’t forget to sign up for the retreat if you haven’t already done so, there’s still room.

We have been busy planning our events to keep us all busy (or busier) during the retreat.  I will be passing around a sheet at the October meeting to verify the actual count.  I have a list of who registered but need a definite of how many per room.  We want to make sure everyone is included!

You will need some supplies for a few games we are planning.
Please bring 3 Holiday FQ’s for Strip Poker (or now it has to be called LRC)

We also are planning a relay race (3 people to a team) and each team requires one jelly roll.  If you want to participate get your team and one jelly roll together, no worries, it’s not physical.  No exercise is required but cheerleading will be!

Bring cash or credit card, we are having SEWMODERNCHICK come in with her pop up store.  If you want to purchase the latest modern fabric, she will have it.
Julie Harmon, the masseuse, will also be there on Sunday with her chair to help those aching muscles.

There is still time to book a room for the OMQG November Retreat.  Rooms will be released if not booked on October 8, 2018.

Community Outreach
Marge Cree

Thank you everyone who has been participating in the Community Outreach programs.  What a success this year has been so far! A few of our projects have been completed ahead of schedule!

The Festival of Trees quilt team has created another masterpiece!  The finishing touches are being added to the 2018 Festival of Trees quilt.  It will be ready for the unveiling at the November meeting to be given to Council of 101 who sponsors the yearly event to raise funds for the Orlando Museum of Art.  A big thank you goes out to Kate Elliott and the team who created this beauty together.

We have decided to show the 6 beautiful quilts for the Samaritan Village at the October meeting since we are ahead of schedule.  Thank you everyone who participated and Kathy Aber for heading this project. Can’t wait to see them. I hope everyone had fun doing them as a team, I know I did!

Another home run!  The 2019 QuiltCon Quilt has been completed.  Thank you everyone who created blocks for this beauty.  A special thank you to Kathy Aber and Alissa Lapinsky. Don’t miss the November guild meeting where this will be displayed.

Please continue to make those Placemats for Meals on Wheels.  We have had such a wonderful response, keep them coming to dress up someone’s dinner table, the holidays are coming.  This month we are donating another 50+ to Orange and Osceola Centers.  The guild really participated a lot over the last 2 months!

We had a "Call for Blocks” this month for the Hurricane victims in North Carolina.  Beth sent out 2 quilts from the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild.  Remember to continue to make those HST. We will also have supplies at the retreat if you are bored with what you brought to sew.

Last but not least, Kathy Aber has set up a meeting for us at Health Central Park ALF to finalize our plans for the trunk show and quilt give away.  Keep on thinking of this when you are making a quilt that you just don’t know what you are going to do with.  Help us bring joy and beauty to the residents of Health Central Park Assisted Living Facility. Last month I said there were 2 ways you can help but I added one.  1). You can volunteer to come with us to explain the modern style of quilting and show off your quilts. 2). You can give us a quilt to be part of the trunk show. All you have to do is lend the quilt to us and include a little blurb about it, why, how, when it was made etc.  3. The most important, donate a lap quilt to be included in our give away to the residents. We will be collecting them until January so there’s still time to get out that pattern that you’ve always wanted to try but didn’t know who to give it to! Kathy Aber is collecting the quilts for this effort.  Also, please let Kathy Aber or Marge Cree know if you have a quilt you would like to show at the trunk show.
