OMQG Meeting of September 5, 2012

Meeting Minutes
September 5, 2012
10 am til Noon at the Sewing Studio in Maitland
22 Members and Guests in Attendance

I.     Sign In and Meet and Greet

II.    Raffle Basket
The basket was provided by last month's winner, Zonetta and won by Terry.


III.   Block of the Month
The September Blocks of the Month were won by Zonetta.



The October BOM is a 12.5 inch (unfinished) block of your choice in a Halloween theme, colors or fabric.

IV.    Other Guild Business

A.  Donation Items

Habitat for Humanity-Jody will continue to accept handmade kitchen items such as placements, coasters and pot holders to donate to Habitat for Humanity.  She will make a delivery to H for H in November and again in December as needed.



Commaderie-The donation quilts presented to the Commaderie Foundation were not auctioned off as originally planned.  Instead they will be featured at an upcoming fund raising event at the Citrus Club in Orlando.

B.  Classes

At Sew Day, Nov. 17th, modern quilter and teacher, Carolyn Friedlander, will present a paper piecing class using her "Olive" pattern. The cost of the class will be $35.00 for members and $50.00 for non-members.  There will also be a $12.00 charge for a pattern/kit on the day of the workshop.

Discussions are taking place to possibly have a class with Jacquie Gering (Tallgrass Prairie Studio) in 2013.

C.    QuiltCon Block Challenge - Blocks which have been submitted for the challenge (including those from the OMQG) are being featured on the Modern Quilt Guild blog.

D.    October Guild Challenge- Bring a fat quarter (approximate size) of what you consider to be ugly fabric in a paper bag.  Those interested in the challenge will swap bags and the challenge will be to make something lovely from the uglies to be presented at a future meeting.

E.  Beth shared samples of a number of books about Modern Quilting.

IV.    AAQI

A.     AAQI Celebrity Challenge-Mary explained how the Celebrity Invitational Challenge works and asked for support of her entry on the AAQI website.

B.  If you make purchases from Amazon.com it is beneficial to AAQI if you connect to Amazon through AAQI here.

C.      AAQI Donation Quilts were made as part of the September Guild Challenge.
