January Meeting Minutes

General Meeting

January 2, 2019 10am

The Sewing Studio Classroom

President Sarah opened the meeting welcoming members and quests and a reminder about The Sewing Studio's discount for attendees on the day of the meeting.

Member at Large, Jane, presented the ice breaker - an interactive game of "would you rather?" When presented with questions like "would you rather pin or spray baste a queen-sized quilt?" you had to stand up or wave your arms in the air.

Sarah announced the Maitland Library Curves display is going up on Friday, January 4th. Mary Sm is organizing the installation that will run the month of January.

Lake Mary Historical Museum display is January 12th - February 9th.

Elections Committe - Karol presented the candidates for the 2019 Orlando MQG Board.

For President - Ede
She spoke about her long-term membership and involvement in the guild through the guild in the positions she has held. Most recently she has assisted Paula with the monthly programming. She is excited for the 10 year anniversary, hopes to continue the small groups, and needs more help in planning and executing the monthly meeting programming.

For Vice President - Yanick
Yanick was not in attendance to speak but has also been involved in the guild for many years and held other board positions.

For Secretary - Caroline
Caroline was not in attendance but gave Karol a note to share. She has been a member for 5 years and for the last 2 years has been involved with social media through Instagram and the website. She has also run the Cre-active Club. She would like to encourage more members to contribute to the monthly newsletter.

For Community Outreach - Kelly
Kelly has been a member for at least 4 years and loves to create and give to others so this is a perfect position for her to use those passions. She looks forward to having a strong team and new projects for this year.

For Member at Large - Beth
Beth was also not in attendance but has been an active member for many years and held various positions. This year she has been very active in the Community Outreach committee as the Call for Blocks chair.

For Education - Alissa
Alissa was not in attendance but has been very involved and held board positions in her time with the guild.

For Treasurer - Zonetta
Zonetta is the current Treasurer and looks forward to another year on the board.

December 20th was the deadline for nominations so since all positions are running unopposed voting is not necessary and this will be the 2019 Board.

The December Blocks of the Month

They were won by Morgan and Mary Sm accepted them in her absence.

The January BOM is a simple 2 color half square triangle. Directions can be found here.

Treasurer Zonetta presented the treasurer's report. She also discussed how the Modern Quilt Guild changed the deadline for the member dues from December to March so that will be paid then. Our member renewals will begin at the February meeting. A renewal form will be sent out this month. The Modern Quilt Guild has increased dues by 20% and in turn our dues will be increased from $50 to $55 in 2019 to cover this increase.

The audit was completed by Zonetta, Love, and Beth.

Community Outreach - Marge thanked everyone for their participation in our service projects and a very productive year. If you have a quilt for the Assisted Living raffle or show, please see Kathy Aber and/or bring it to the February meeting. So far we have 15 quilts and anything below a twin size is greatly appreciated. The event is February 7th at 1pm.

The finished QuiltCon 2019 Charity Quilt was shared. It will soon be sent in.

Library - Kelly shared 2 new books in the library. Check them out!

In Paula's absence, Ede gave the presentation "How to Get Out of a Creative Rut or Have you lost your Sew-Jo?"
