Quilts for Grenfell

CALL FOR BLOCKS (Grenfell Tower victims)
Please bring to the July guild meeting.  If you have any questions, please contact Beth S.  The following information regarding blocks is from the organizer's webpage:

We’re accepting the following block donations to make into quilts for the Grenfell Tower victims:
blocks sized 6.5 or 12.5 inch unfinished in any style, any colour provided they are 100% quilting cotton quality fabric
QAYG blocks (same size and fabric requirements, cotton batting only please)
Heart blocks like those used in #quiltsforpulse and #aheart4London. See the tutorial from Cluck Cluck Sew http://cluckclucksew.com/2015/01/ma... - ideally 6.5 or 12.5 inches.
The following things are not appropriate for quilts for Muslims:
Pictures of faces of people or animals/silhouettes of faces/people/animals
Images resembling any other faith (crosses, Star of David, the Om for example)
Images of things that are haram (such as alcohol, pork etc)
Quilts/fabrics donated with these images on them will still be used and distributed but we will make sure they are donated to a non-Muslim distribution centre to avoid causing offence or upset to people.
Generally going for geometric/floral/plant prints or plains/tone on tone/polka dot type fabrics will be fine.

  1. In case it helps, to make a 12 1/2 heart block, cut 12/2 x 6 1/2 (2 of the color fabric), 6 1/2 squares (2 of background fabric) and 2 1/2 squares (4 of background fabric)
