ORLANDO MODERN QUILT GUILD
MEETING MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 3, 2014
MAITLAND, FLORIDA

31 members and 7 guests were present.

Treasurer Report
Marge gave the report. The proceeds from last month’s auction were $1188.50.  We had $27.93 in expenses, leaving a total balance of $6205.25. We gained 5 new members this month.

Raffle Basket
The raffle basket is on hold until next month.

Education Coordinator

Cara reported she will be stepping down as the Program Coordinator at the end of the year, and Debbie King is in transition to take over as Coordinator.

Ellen’s free motion class will be held Saturday, September 6th, at the Dr. Phillips library from 10:00 til 1:00, alongside our regular sewing day. Donations will be accepted. A list of supplies is available here.

The retreat will be November 7-9, Thirteen women have signed up so far, the facility caps as 25.

Dec 5-6 is the Bumble Beans, Victoria Findley Wolfe class, 15 Minutes of Play.  It is from 10:30 - 4:40, and you can attend one or both days. The cost for members is $35. per day with a max of 22 students per day. Sign up begins today.

Please check with Cara to see if she has accounted for all of your UFO’s projects which you have completed. Sharleen finished all 6 on her list.

Blog Post
Leslie was the winner for the Blog Post comments on the website.





Quiltcon Charity Quilt
Beth presented options for the charity quilt and a sign up sheet for those interested.  She will also provide blocks for practice quilting on Saturday’s Freemotion class. The blocks will be donations for VA Charity quilts.



Charity Projects





Linda presented our results of the Beta House Charity Quilts, the guild made 36 guilts, 15 bibs and 2 cloths, they will be delivered Tuesday.

The next project is the Orlando Veterans Home in Lake Nona. The guild will make and donate 50 by 70 inch quilts. They have 116 residents, three are women.

Linda challenged us to make some red white and blue squares form Septembers BOM to donated next month toward the VA project, she also will begin organizing 4 groups to make some quilts.


Sunshine Committee
Pat and Judy volunteered to be the new Sunshine Committee.

Salon
OMQG's new Modern Salon will be at the Bernina Sewing Center in Lake Mary from 6:00 - 8:00 on September 11th. The discussion will be on the modern movement. We will continue to meet monthly, either the 2nd or 3rd Thursday of each month. This is our new get together, a casual time to meet in the evening and talk all things modern quilting.
Demo
Debra showed a demo on the Quilted box.  Instructions  can be found on the Seaside Stitches blog here.

BOM

Debra shared the October Block of the Month. A Scrappy Star, the instructions can be found on the blog by Clover and Violet here.




This months BOM Raffle was won by Sharlene.


Show and Tell




















"I wish I had made that" was won by Leslie.



Door Prizes
Rene, Pat and a guest won door prizes.



FOT
Debbe presented information on our Festival of Trees Quilt. It should be finished piecing this week by Yanick, then quilted by Beth, Mary will bind it, and Debra will make the storage bag. 

Other
Jane Hamrock announced she will have a trunk show at The Sewing Studio on September 20th from 1:00 - 3:00.
The meeting was concluded by12:00, to be followed by lunch at First Watch.
