  3. Hi, I'm Rene' and I helped start the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild in March 2010. I have been quilting off and on for about six years but in the last year I've been more "on" than "off" ;-) I am married with three children. In addition to spending time with friends and family, I love quilting, reading and photography. I blog at www.renecreates.com

  4. Hello everyone! I'm Michele and Rene' invited me to the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild. I've been quilting for almost four years and enjoy the learning process and creativity. I especially love the freedom and look of modern quilting. The "no quilt police" thing is great too!

I am an Orlando native, married with two fun teenagers. By day, I am a graphic designer and have owned a small design firm for 17 years. I also love cooking, grilling, fine arts, reading and collecting fabric! ;) I blog at http://nostalgiccafe.blogspot.com/ and look forward to meeting more guild members. We're quite a talented bunch and it's been a blast so far!

  5. Hey everyone. I'm Beth and I really love being a part of this group.
I have been quilting for about 4 years now. I really enjoy the look of the "modern" quilts, and the fact that it's OK for seems not to match up! I get a LOT of ideas from this group, magazines, and patterns I see in shops. Way more ideas than I'll ever be able to make.
I heard about this group from the internet when I was searching "modern quilts".
I also do machine embroidery, and I make quilts with embroidered and pieced blocks. They are really nice.
I am still a "beginner" quilter, and need a lot of instruction.
I enjoy meeting people who do the things I do. I also ride horses, crochet, and read.

  6. Hi, I'm Cara, and I'm a quilter. ;) I'm also the new Mom of Daniela Marie, who has earned the nickname Guild Baby since my maternity leave has meant I can attend the guild meetings. However, her presence also means my actual quilting has been reduced to cutting a few squares I hope to turn in to blocks somewhere in the next few months. When I do get to quilt, I embrace the 'anything goes' policy of Modern Quilting and prefer modern fabrics. I am thrilled to have a community of like-minded quilters with whom to obsess. I also knit and crochet, but am a complete failure at paper crafts. I blog at thefloridalife.blogspot.com, but I'll admit its mostly a baby blog these days. The quilting will return some day, she says hopefully.

  7. I have been quilting for around 15 years or so, though for many years I only had time to work on a few projects each year. This year I have more time available and have really renewed my interests in all things quilting related. I have enjoyed taking a number of classes trying out new techniques and figuring out which ones I want to incorporate into my projects. I love OMQG and fresh, no rules ways of using fabric for self expression.

  8. Hello, I'm Hope, and I consider myself to be moving from beginner quilter to advanced beginner! I quilted some when I was a teenager, then years of busy career and then parenting got in the way. I've been able to rediscover my love for quilting and all things quilted in the last couple of years. (thanks to a big push from my friend Rene!)

I love coming to the OMQG meetings as I get so motivated and inspired by seeing what everyone else is doing, and I've learned a lot from the other members in the short time the group has been in existence.

In my spare time I am a busy wife and mother of two active kids ( ages 10 and 11). I love to read, cook, entertain, travel, scrapbook, spend time with friends and family and make things with my hands. I always enjoy seeing how things are made, and then attempt to figure out how I can do that! My husband's favorite Yoda quote seems appropriate here..."Do or do not, there is no try!"
