Charity Project

I contacted the "Health Care Center of Windemere" to get information about the residents.  They have about 120 residents at any one time. When we broke them into different categories, they have many "rehab", and other residents that have family and friends in the area, and really are not alone.
There are about 25 females, and 5 male residents who are "long term", and have little or no family and friends in the area.  At the Aug. meeting we decided to focus on these individuals for our Christmas project.
I will provide a stocking for each resident, and I'm working on crochet capelets. I'm also making some lap quilts, and I will make pillow cases. I will post some links to items that may be fun to make.  If you know you are going to make something for this community, please post here.  If you know something you would like to make, but need help finding a pattern or whatever, please let me know.
I am posting some links to items members had mentioned possibly making.
Let's see if we can't make this a wonderful Christmas for these elderly residents! (And have fun doing it)!

  1. From comments left at old website, Heather plans to make two wheelchair quilts; Rene' plans to make two wheelchair quilts; Hope plans to make two wheelchair quilts - one for ladies, one for gents; Rebecca will try to make a few eyeglasses and/or bookmarks.

Beth says the activity director would like to have a morning "get together" with us on either Dec. 14th or the 7th if the 14th won't work. Probably around 10am.

  3. Beth, I made two sets of flannel pillowcases (four cases total) for the holiday project. Unfortunately, the Sew Day isn't realistic for me yet. What would be the easiest way to get them to you?

  4. I visited with Maria at the Health Care Center last week. It is really a wonderful facility. Maria was kind enough to give me a tour, and was able to give me some information about the residents we will be adopting. I will have a stocking for each resident, and will put some of the smaller items in each stocking.
I have quite a few items in my room, waiting to be donated. (I'll be glad to get the space back), as my room isn't that big to begin with. Many thanks to all who have been contributing things for the residents.
We now have about 32 people to donate gifts to. Please let me know if you have made things that I don't have yet. Also, please post if you will be able to make the Dec 14 "cookies and drinks" at the nursing home. They would like to have an idea of how many of us will be there.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
