Announcements
We're looking for members who are interested in running for Vice President, Education Coordinator, and Community Outreach Coordinator. We also need one more member to serve on the nomination committee. Reach out to the guild email if you are interested!
To celebrate the guild's 15th anniversary, we will be hosting a social on March 15, 2025 at the First Congregational Church of Winter Park.
Orlando MQG is participating in a cross-country mini quilt swap. The SEWN Swap features guilds from the South (Orlando), East (DC), West (Denver), and North (Chicago). More details and the signup link have been sent to members!
Treasurer's Report
Ellen presented the Treasurer's report, which is also available by request.
Upcoming Events
Our Holiday Social is coming up in December (it occurs during our General Meeting). We traditionally host an exchange during this meeting - this year we will be exchanging pot holders! Get creative with how you make yours, we just ask that it truly functions as a pot holder. Insul-Bright makes for a great batting material, as well as multiple layers of old towels or cotton batting.
The Retreat is this month! Let Marge know if you want to participate as a day visitor. Emails have gone out to those who registered for the retreat.
Community Outreach
No updates this month!
Education
We will be hosting a workshop by David Owen Hastings - Inspired by Art!
Saturday, February 8
12 - 6 PM
$70 for members
We will have our first Virtual Lecture on Thursday, January 9, 2025. Timna Tarr will present "Before and After - Repeating Patterns". In this lecture she will show the utilitarian quilts from her life, and how they planted the seeds that became the contemporary works that she now creates.
Fun
Cara won both the Education Basket AND the block of the month!
Programming
Ede presented on Paper Piecing! She shared the traditional method and Tara Faughnan's method that allows you to skip the paper tearing phase.
Sew and Tell
Stunning as always!
