September 2024 Meeting Minutes

Retreat Coordinator Marge Cree reminded members to let her know if they are planning to attend the retreat and to let her know if they have any roommates.

President Cara Dobrev shared a few local events:
4 Roots Upcycling Event, September 12-14: https://www.iidaflc.org/upcoming-events/tampa-zero-landfill-upcycling-event-z9pew

Shibori Indigo Dyeing Workshop, September 14: https://artreachorlando.org/adult-workshops

Member Kelly Morton shared a volunteering opportunity with Central Florida Dreamplex. They offer sewing classes twice per week for people with varying disabilities and are always looking for knowledgable sewists and crafters to support. More info on the organization here: https://www.cfldreamplex.com/

Member at Large Ashley Gottshalk welcomed 1 new members, 1 returning member, and 1 guest. She then led us all in a "Never Have I Ever" activity - turns out everyone has experienced having to rip out the same seam twice!

Ellen presented the Treasurer's report, which is also available by request.

Community Outreach

Karol, our Community Outreach Chair, shared that we recently donated 20 placemats to Meals on Wheels, 10 cat mats to shelters, and 1 dog bed and 15 quilts to Harbor House. Karol let us know we have 3 extraordinary charity quilts on hand - let her know if you know of an organization that could use a quilt to raise donations!

Education

Bradie's Bag Making workshop in September is full! If you are joining Sew Day on the same day please consider bringing a handwork project.

Festival of Trees Quilt

The top has been assembled! The quilt will be debuted soon.

QuiltCon Quilt

The QuiltCon quilt top was finished at the most recent Sew Day and quilted by Priscilla prior to our meeting. All that remains is the binding! The pattern is "Eye of the Tiger" from an older issue of Quilt Life. Pam enlarged the FPP pattern to create a larger finished quilt. It looks wonderful!

Modern Traditionalism Challenge Reveal

Members revealed their challenge results! Two participants were randomly selected to win Sewing Studio gift cards for their participation.
