August 2024 Meeting Minutes

President Cara Dobrev reminded members that next year will mark our 15th anniversary as a guild. We will have a zoom brainstorm session for ideas on how to celebrate on August 29. Members will receive an email with more details on August 9th.

Cara also reminded members to refrain from eating and drinking in the meeting room. We appreciate The Sewing Studio's generosity in letting us use the space and want to make sure we leave it as we found it.

Cara also pointed out that The Sewing Studio would be hosting a class on preserving textiles on September 9. Learn more and sign up here: https://sewing.net/products/conserving-our-fabric-treasures-mon-09-09-1-00pm-4-00pm

Our guild welcomed 2 new members, 1 returning member, 1 guest, and multiple junior guests today.

Ellen presented the Treasurer's report, which is also available by request.

Community Outreach

Karol, our Community Outreach Chair, let us know that she would be bringing several quilts to Harbor House. We are also still collecting pillowcases, placemats, cat mats, and drawstring bags.

Education

Debby, our Education Coordinator, let us know that Bradie's Bag Making workshop in September is full! An email will be going out to those who signed up with more information.

Festival of Trees Blocks

Alicia’s hand cut and assembled kits. Bring finished sections to Sew Day on August 31. Nacy showed off her section!

Quiltcon Quilt

Bring finished blocks to the Sew Day on August 31. The group is meeting at 10 AM to put blocks together.

Retreat

Members have received an email with details for signing up.
If you have door prizes to donate, you can bring them to a general meeting until November or bring them to the retreat.
See Priscilla if you would like a roommate.
We will likely be doing a potluck-style event on Friday evening of the retreat so everyone can get to know each other!

Programming

Kathy Aber presented on an exhibit she saw in Iowa - Twisted: Modern Quilts with a Vintage Twist, curated by Mary Kerr. The exhibit shared the use of rescued vintage blocks and textiles to create new quilts. As it turns out - for as long as women have been quitting, there have been projects left undone. Mary Kerr turned these unfinished projects into reimagined masterpieces!

Fun

Tina won our Education Raffle Basket!

Nancy won our August Block of the Month. September's Block of the Month is the Chicken Scratch block. Instructions were emailed out and are available on our blog.

Sew and Tell was inspiring as always!
