May 2023 General Meeting Minutes

President Marge Cree welcomed everyone to the May 2023 General Meeting.  About 60 people attended, with 5 new members joining us today!

Pamela Edwards, Treasurer, gave us an update on income and expenses for March/April 2023.  Debby Manuel, Education Coordinator, went over the upcoming June 3 workshop for members featuring Libs Elliott called "Embrace the Chaos."  She recommended that people get together with their friends to participate on this Zoom workshop.

Karol Evans, Community Outreach chair, provided updates on our two big projects - Festival of Trees quilt, which will be kicking off in June, and QuiltCon quilt, which will be kicking off in July.  She also suggested that if there were small groups of people who lived near each other and wanted to work on an quilt for IMPOWER to let her know, so the groups can be coordinated.

Marge talked about next month's meeting that will review rulers - and to bring or be ready to talk about your favorite ruler.  A sign-up sheet will be circulated soon for the Round Robin activity that will kick off in August, run by Paula Kennedy.

Big news on the annual retreat - the dates have been scheduled with the resort!  Mark your calendars for November 9 to 13...more to come later on this.

Julia Hunt covered for Ginny Chambers who will be running a Kawandi challenge.  Julia told us that Ginny would be at both sew days this month to talk to anyone interested, and a supply list / information is posted HERE on the blog.

Dawn Vanderwolf, Secretary, gave an overview of the Guild's library, and all books in the library were available for perusal today (this is not the normal process, as it takes a big effort to get them all here!).  Marge then educated us on the magic of adding a border to a quilt that didn't come out as square as we expected!  Here was her finished example:

Ashley Gottshalk won the raffle basket:

And Karol Evans won the May block of the months:

Nancy Reed gave us an overview of the June block of the month, and instructions are HERE on the blog.  We saw some wonderful work in Show & Tell, and had some nice time socializing!
