December 2020 General Meeting Minutes , Orlando Modern Quilt Guild

 General Meeting Minutes

Orlando Modern Quilt Guild

December 2020

President Ede Nault opened the meeting at 10:06 AM on the Zoom virtual format.

Ede reported that there will be no meeting or newsletter in January, but January Calendar will be sent out at the end of December. There are lots of sew days in January to take advantage of to stay connected.

Debra Jalbert discussed Show and Tell for It’s a Wrap and introduced Debby Manuel to talk about the challenge. The participants are on project #one and have until the end of Feburary to complete the projects for a show and tell, as well as a drawing for prizes.

Debra also reminded everyone of the Sew days for January.

Sue Kenard, Community Outreach coordinator discussed the 3rd Monday Exchange, where members meet at the Sewing Studio to exchange swap items, outreach items, and library books. It has been great to deliver and pick up since we are not hosting meetings now at the Sewing Studio. This month only, the exchange will be the Second Tuesday of the month on December 14, due to the Christmas holiday.

Sue has charity quilt kits to anyone who wants to take one and complete a kit. They were put together by the “sisters’ team” for when we send a quilt to organizations for emergency situations.

Pam Edwards, a member, has requested any orphan blocks, jeans, or fabric to make quilts for “Prayers for Squares”, (a link was provided in the newsletter about the group) She will be at the exchange on Dec 14 to pick up any items donated.

Sue also mentioned she has enough blocks to make about 8-10 baby quilts for the

Charity group at Summit Church for the Foster Care program.

A video was shown via screen share of the presentation at Summit Church of the 54 quilts donated so far to the Foster Care program. Thank you to Sharleen Jesperson and Sarah Lauzon for the presentation.

Ede said that Marge Cree, Education Coordinator, was unable to attend the meeting, so in her place, she asked for members to submit any recommendations on virtual quilt teachers for the upcoming year. Please contact Marge or Ede with your suggestions.

Paula Kennedy reported that the Houston International Quilt Festival is opening tomorrow, Dec 3-5, and it is virtual this year, making it available to everyone who wants to attend for a small pass fee. ($10.00). She posted the link in the chat, and here: https://www.quilts.com/quilt-festival/

Paula also showed photo of the Festival of Trees quilt donated by the guild to the Orlando Museum of Art. She also explained the process this year of the online viewing and purchasing of drawing tickets; that it was a huge success, and that all visitors really loved the quilt.

Mary Smart, Nominating Committee Chairman reported that no one had come forward to run for office/board positions for the upcoming year, and that the current board has agreed to stay on for one more year. An email will be sent out later this week for a vote to retain the current board for 2021-2022. Also needed is an approval for exemption to in the bylaws for Ede Nault to remain on as president for another year, since she has served two years already.
