June 2016 Block of the Month!

Happy BOM time y'all! This month I've got some improv scrap-busting fun for everyone.

Step 1: Gather your materials.

Materials:

  • Fabric scraps in different colors and sizes
  • Solid fabric in one color, cut into four 3.5" half-square triangles.

Step 2: Realize that you very clearly gravitate toward certain colors. Take a look at your scraps and pick a few that you would like to sew together.

Step 3: Cut these scraps into strips of various widths. The thinner your strips, the more fabrics you can fit in!

Step 4: Sew these strips together. Remember to sew each strip from the opposite side as the last and press your seams open as you go.

Step 5: Grab your ruler and rotary cutter and cut a 6" square out of the scraps your sewed together. Experiment with orienting your scraps at different angles when you cut to have a different effect on how your square turns out!

Step 5: Sew your half-square triangles to each edge of your 6" square.

Step 6: Press your seams & square up your block to 8".

Enjoy! :)

  1. Hi Alexis:
You say to cut the inner square to 6 inches, but the picture is a 6.5 inch squaring ruler. Which is correct? Thanks
