November Sew Days - Days for Girls Charity Project

This November we will be making a key part to the kits for the Days for Girls project. If you are attending the Sew Days in Maitland or Dr Phillips, you are encouraged to bring the following:

All the usual sewing supplies including sewing machine, scissors, pins and thread to go with your fabrics.
Botanicals, geometrics and batiks work well.
 Please avoid prints with people, reptiles,animals or bugs.
For each shield you will need;
9" X 11" piece of PUL (Provided by the Guild!)
pre-washed cotton - 2 pieces 9" X 11" (2 coordinating colors makes it easier)
                    1 piece 5" X 8 1/2" ( of either print)

For each liner you will need;
2 pieces 8 1/2 " X 9 1/2" med to dark pre-washed flannel

Sharleen has generously offered her time to show you how to make the shield and liners which is a key component to the kits needed.

December Block of the Month

With the craziness of the holiday preparations, I thought a quick and fun block to be a good idea.  The X block fits the bill!  I whipped this one up in no time using fabrics from my scrap pile.  It's basically a slice and insert technique.

X block

Pile O' Fabric has a great tutorial for making this block which she calls the cross stitch block.  Her tutorial provides instructions for quite a few sizes.  Follow her measurements for making the {5" or 5.5" or 6"} size block and trim to 5.5".

Have fun making one or two or ten of these blocks using neutrals/low value/low volume fabrics for the backgrounds and bright modern fabrics for the X.  Bring them to December's meeting for a chance to go home with them all!

Happy stitching!!!
