August 4, 2010
10 AM - 12 Noon
Sewing Studio in Maitland, Fl.
There were 8 members and 1 guest present. The meeting was conducted by Rene.
Welcome to members and guests.
August Birthdays-Kathryn was present. Others with August birthdays, Laura, Robin, Leah and Jaime, were not present.
A Book Exchange was held. The exchange is intended for you to get to swap a quilting book you are no longer interested in with someone else's book.
Beth gave an update on the Charity Project. We agreed that we would focus on items for the long term residents of the facility who have limited resources and no family. This is about 25 women and 5 men. The type of items that we will work on include scarves, hats, socks, crocheted and quilted ornaments, pillow cases, eye glass holders and walker totes.
Kathryn gave an overview of the July Meeting Minutes which have been posted online for the previous month.
Michelle gave the Treasurer's Report. We have $736.25 in the checking account, and we currently have 20 paid members.
In August in place of the Sew Day we will have a field trip. Interested members will meet on August 26th (Thursday) at 10 am at the Quilt Shop of Deland. The visit will be followed by members meeting for lunch. (Each person pays for her own lunch.) Please let Hope know if you plan to attend the trip so she can make lunch reservations in advance.
Magrit will do a demo at the regular September 1st meeting. Sew Day in September is scheduled for September 18th.
The October Sew Day is being replaced with a workshop by Juanita Yeager on machine quilting. This will be on October 2nd at the South West (Dr. Phillips) branch of the Orange County Library System. The Guild will help cover the cost of the workshop for members with members paying $35.00 and non-members paying $55.00. We need to have a minimum of 10 attendees. Please let Hope know asap if you are planning to attend.
The regular October Meeting will be held on October 6th at the Sewing Studio in Maitland.
Ugly Fabric Challenge-A number of members brought an "ugly" fabric from their stashes in plain paper bags. Participants exchanged bags (without peeking at the fabric) and have agreed to make anything they wish with the uglies and bring the results to the regular October 6th Meeting.
The Door Prize was won by Michelle.
The Demo on watercolor/soy milk fabric painting was presented by Kathryn. There was also a lengthy discussion on printing digital images on fabric.
The meeting ended with a Show and Tell session.
