November 6, 2013 Meeting Minutes

Meeting Minutes
November 6, 2013
10:00 AM - 12 Noon
Maitland, Florida 

I.     Meet and Greet
There were 32 members and guests in attendance.

II.    Updates on Projects and Challenges
The four teams gave updates on the progress of Camp Boggy Creek blocks.  The finished quilts are due at the February Meeting.

Yanick reminded everyone about the end of November deadline for the Double Wedding Ring Challenge sponsored by the NYC Modern Quilt Guild.  OMQG participants are to bring their project to the December meeting.

III.   Raffle Basket
The raffle basket was won by Beth.


IV.    Holiday Party
The holiday party will be at the Friday, Dec. 13th Sew Day at the Dr. Phillips branch library. Each attendee is to bring a dish to share.  Anyone who would like to participate in an exchange is to bring a wrapped mug rug. Biata will bring her Houston photos to share her experience during Sew Day. (The other December Sew Day is Dec. 9th at the Maitland Library.  This will be a regular sew day and will not include a holiday party.)

V.     Elections
The OMQG year runs March through February each year.  Anyone interested in running for a position (President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer) are to indicate their interest to the current President, Beth, no later than December 15. Position Descriptions are available on the OMQG website under "About Us."  And online election will take place in January with the change in officers occurring effective March 2014.

VI.      Prize
The November Door Prize went to Maya.

VII.   Modern Quilt Guild
Rene gave a presentation and answered questions about the guild's upcoming decision/vote on whether or not the OMQG should officially join the MQG.


VIII.  Blocks of the Month

The November Blocks were won by Debra J.

Linda showed a sample of the December BOM.

IX.    Retreat
The guild retreat takes place this weekend (beginning Friday at 1 pm) and there are openings if anyone is interested.

X.     Show and Tell



























"I Was I Made That" was awarded to Leslie for her Show and Tell items.




PLEASE NOTE: The January 2014  Meeting will be held on the second Wednesday instead of the first Wednesday since the first Wednesday is New Year's Day.

December's Block of the Month was designed by Linda M. This festive Christmas Ornament block is just what we need to ease into the holiday season. You can find her step-by-step tutorial right here.

Bring your completed block(s) to the December 4th guild meeting at The Sewing Studio for a chance to take them all home.

Minutes of the October 2, 2013 Meeting

ORLANDO MODERN QUILT GUILD

I.      MEET AND GREET

II.     INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS

III.    MAITLAND SEW DATES
Sew days at Maitland for the balance of the year are Oct. 21st, Nov. 11 and Dec. 9. (Some of these are new dates.)
Sew days at Dr. Phillips Branch (Orange County Library) for the remaining of the year are Oct. 18, Nov. 15 and December 13.
Sew days for Dr. Phillips for the first half of 2014 are Jan. 18, Feb. 15, March 1, April 19, May 17 and June 21.

IV.    NAME BADGE CHALLENGE

The challenge winner was Sharleen!




V.     BLOCK OF THE MONTH


        Marge won the October Blocks of the Month!



Rene introduced the November Block of the Month.  Instructions are posted online.
The maple leaf blocks are to be done with fall colors on a neutral background.



VI.    BOGGY CREEK QUILTS
Each team gave an update on the progress of their quilts for Boggy Creek Camp.

VII.   JULIE'S CLASS

Julie provided patterns so that members who did not get to attend her workshop at Sew Day would still be able to try out her newest pin cushion pattern.


VIII.  FRIDAY DECEMBER 13
Our holiday get together will be at the December 13 Sew Day at Dr. Phillips.

IX.    RAFFLE BASKET
Cara provided the raffle basket.


Edie won the raffle basket!



X.     SHOW AND TELL

XII.   TRICK OR TREAT
Linda created a surprise activity.  Everyone received a trick or treat bag filled with holiday fabrics and patterns and then everyone was encouraged to negotiate swaps with other members.
