Sew Day Fun, June 15, 2013

Sew Day was what we have come to expect:  good food, great company and lots of projects in the works.

Lots of talk.

Oh, so many projects to choose from.

Some projects wrapped around the room.

Some projects almost completed if only there is enough red fabric left.

Works in progress.

Quilt backs as interesting as the fronts.

Projects completed.

Examples of the Block of the Month for July were shown by both Michele and Yanick.

IX.     Sew Day Discussions
Typically our sew days have all been held at the SW Branch (Dr. Phillips) of the Orange County Library System. The last 6 months of 2013, we were only able to book the location for one Saturday. A number of people indicated interest in having some sew days on weekdays.  The rest of the year at the SW Library is a mix of days and meanwhile Beth will look into some other possible locations to have set up some additional dates.

Currently the Dates for the remaining 2013 Sew Days are:
June 15th (Saturday)
July29th (Monday)
August 19th (Monday)
September 21st (Saturday)
October 18th (Friday)
November 15th (Friday)
December 13 (Friday)

Beth proposed that some Saturday Sew Dates be replaced with field trips to quilt shops in Trenton (Spring of 2014) and in Dunedin (Fall of 2013).  There was sufficient interest that she will look into the possibility of a fall road trip to Rainbows End in Dunedin and to the Suwannee Valley Quilt Shop in the spring.

X.      Retreat Discussion
Possible dates for the fall quilting retreat in Cocoa were discussed and the weekend of November 8th-10th was selected. More information will be forthcoming.

XI.     Show and Tell

XII.    I Wish I Had Made That
Awarded to Christina.

July 2013 Block of the Month

July's BOM is the Snail Trail. Thanks for the suggestion, Yanick! This traditional block is fun and easy. Snail Trail dates back to the 1920s and 30s and is also known as the Monkey Wrench, Indiana Puzzle, and Friendly Hand. The pattern can also yield two blocks if you use four different fabrics. Remember, for each block you make, you get that many chances to win them all. Our color palette will be red, black, white, and grey. Any combination. You can find a step-by-step tutorial right here.

Escargots à la Bourguignonne recipe

After you finish your block(s), whip up some escargots. Bring your finished blocks to our July 3, 2013 meeting. If you have any suggestions for the BOM, let us know.
