What do we need?

Assistance with the Trunk Show
If you would like to join us and assist with the show, we will need about 5 people to help with loading and unloading and displaying the quilts.

Quilts to display
If you have a favorite quilt that you would be willing include in the trunk show get it to Marge Cree or Kathy Aber by the February meeting.  Please have your name on it with a brief description of why and how you created it.  Your name will ensure you get it back.    Also, if you have a quilt in Maitland Library exhibit and would let us include it in the trunk show, please let us know.  We will get it back to you after the trunk show.

Quilts to donate
If you have made a charity quilt and would like to donate to the residents have that to Marge or Kathy by the February meeting if you haven’t already done so.  Depending on how many we receive will dictate how we will distribute.  If we have enough for each resident attending, we will give them out.  If not, we will hold a raffle to give away.
If you can assist us with any of these tasks, please let Marge Cree or Kathy Aber know.  You can reach us Marge at jcree@cfl.rr.com or Kathy at kh.aber410@gmail.com

December Block of the Month

We are making Polaroid blocks for this month's block lotto. You may have seen these online during previous polaroid block swaps that pop up occasionally. I have even heard that a few of you may already have a stash of these and are hoping to add to that collection.  These blocks are easy to whip up and are quite addicting to make.

There are various tutorials out there. I used these instructions from the Polaroid Swap as a general tutorial; this tutorial explains how to chain piece when making multiple blocks.

Basically, you will:

  • cut a 2.5" square for the center "picture"
  • sew 1" wide white strips to both sides.
  • sew a 1" wide white strip to the top.
  • sew a 1.5" wide white strip to the bottom.
  • trim to 3" by 3.5"

If you want to make the block more challenging or consider it as another skill builder block, then you can concentrate on perfecting the perfect 2.5" fussy cut for the center. (I just threw that in there to keep with our skill building theme....haha!)

I hope you enjoy raiding your stash for fun prints to use for the center. That's half the fun! Remember, the more blocks you make, the better your chances for winning them all! Bring them to Wednesday's (January 2nd) meeting for the drawing.
