Favorite Color....

Robert Kaufman is introducing one new color a day on Instagram to promote their new Kona cotton solids which got us thinking......what is YOUR favorite color?  Are you more of a heliotrope person or an astral fan?  Possibly you prefer the warm tones of terra-cotta or sangria?

Come on folks, prizes are involved!  Leave a comment on this post answering what is your favorite color, what color is most represented in your fabric stash, what color is mainly in your wardrobe, and what is your least favorite color?

Just for fun, check out this article about what your favorite color says about you.  Are you familiar with the design-seeds website which features daily color palettes?  Other interesting color sites include this one and this one.

Look for more questions coming soon in a new getting to know you series.

****Giveaway now closed.  Congratulations to our winner Leslie!****

Christmas in July

As we begin making our Festival of Trees quilt project a reality, here are a few answers to FAQ:

The main fabric collection chosen is called 25th and Pine by Basic Grey for Moda fabrics. It incorporates many great holiday patterns and colors. The bag of fabric provided will include light, medium and dark colors along with a fat 8th from this collection. You will also have white houndstooth fabric to use which coordinates with the background of the quilt.

Each guild member is asked to make a 6.5 inch block that will be incorporated into the final design of our quilt. There is no design requirement for your block. Pick any pattern to create your block that will be added to the tree. (Try searching Google or Pinterest for 6.5" block pattern ideas!) Have fun being creative.

Here's a quick sketch of design for this quilt:
A Modern Sampler Tree
(Rough Draft made by Yanick in EQ7.)

You can make more than one block if you have enough remaining fabric in your bag. Try to incorporate white on the sides of one of your blocks when possible. You do not have to have a lot of white in your final block! (Extra blocks may be used to create a storage bag for the quilt auction winner.)

Bags with fabrics are available at Sew Days this month (7/7 in Maitland and 7/19 at Dr. Phillips) if you were unable to attend the July Guild Meeting. Contact Yanick by email or phone if you wish to have your set mailed directly to you.

Please use only the fabrics in the bags provided. If you need additional fabric, contact Yanick for assistance.

Blocks are due by August 6th. You can bring them to the August Guild meeting or mail them directly to Yanick.

Let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
We look forward to seeing your block soon!

FESTIVAL OF TREES QUILT
Yanick distributed fabric for the quilt and asked members to make one or two 6.5 inch blocks from it.  Some important things to remember if you are making blocks:
  • Blocks must be completed and turned in at our August 6 meeting.
  • Please do not incorporate other fabrics; use only the fabric provided.  You do not have to use all the fabrics, but definitely use the "fat eighth" and the white fabric.
  • You can create ANY block design as long as it is 6.5 inches unfinished.
  • Incorporate as much of the background fabric (white) on sides of block as possible.
  • Fabric will be available at both of July's Sew Days.
  • If you would like to make a block but won't be at the August meeting, please make sure you give your completed block to another member to bring, bring it to a Sew Day, or mail to Yanick.
BEE HIVES
Jodi asked all members who participated in our bee to display their blocks.  There is interest in doing more bees, with some modifications.  Information to follow.
