May 4, 2022 General Meeting Minutes

 



Minutes from the May 4, 2022 General Meeting held at the Sewing Studio

President Marge Cree welcomed everyone to the meeting.  We had a great in-person turnout!



Marge mentioned that in person Sew Day space is available at the Casselberry Library.  We need a few people to head it up if members want to participate.  Love Sullivan agreed to lead the group and Ashley Gottshalk as a back- up person. 

Marge also mentioned that retreat sign-up is going on, for out retreat in November in Daytona Beach.  

Member-at-Large Paula Kennedy introduced two new members, and welcome two guests to the meeting. She will be available to take member photos for the directory immediately after the meeting.

Community Outreach Chair Kathy Aber discussed this years’ community outreach projects.  We will continue the pillowcases and placemats, as well as drawstring bags. 

Several members have signed up for Festival of Trees and Quilt Con committees; an additional sign -up sheet was going around for any furthers sings ups. She will be looking for a chair for each of those committees. Additional community outreach projects are being discussed and will be announced soon.

The Quilt Con charity quilt from 2021 was delivered to the Zebra Coalition. 

Blocks for Ukraine were collected to send to Germany, and quilts for Ukraine were collected and taken to Dade City by Kathy Aber and Sue Kenard.  A brief presentation was shown of the quilts collected, and explanation of how the quilts will be processed and given to those in need.


Beth Schmidt, Call for Blocks chair, announced the call for blocks size and pattern to be held for when we need to make quilts for those in need.  See the post HERE to get the details!

Treasurer Pamela Edward provided a comprehensive overview of the proposed budget for the upcoming year.  

VP of Programming Cara Dobrev gave a brief report and photos of the April 23 EPP class by Rene Martinez.

Love Sullivan presented an overview of a new Art Quilt challenge project.  Parameters include 
100 inches total (square, round, rectangle, etc ). Use of the color orange somewhere in the art quilt, and theme is "TRAVEL."  Entries are due in November, and prizes will be awarded.  See details in post HERE.

The winner of our raffle basket was Cara Dobrev  She had a very lucky day, also winning the Block of the Month blocks.

VP of Programming Cara Dobrev gave a presentation on future months programming, and is looking for chairs for special interest groups.  A sign-up sheet went around to determine those who are interested to lead.  

Jackie Clark and Margaret Wesley gave a very informative program and trunk show on Art Quilts.
