It's hard to believe it's September already.  Fall is just around the corner!  (Well, not in central Florida, but we can dream.)  We're back on Zoom this month but we WILL be meeting in person in October!

We'll be back at the pavilion in Maitland Community Park, 1400 Mayo Ave.  And we'll be having our FABRIC, NOTIONS, AND PATTERNS sale!  Time to have a good cleanup of your sewing room and bring all your extras to put in the sale.  Please wear a mask and bring a drink and, if you wish, a snack (just for you or to share!)

We are planning to be back at the Sewing Studio starting in November, but as always, keep an eye out for updates in the newsletter and in your emails.  Also, don't forget that Maitland Library has resumed in-person Sew Days--the next one will be Monday, Sept 13 (due to Labor Day.) They are still requiring masks at this time.

I'll miss seeing you in September, as we'll be spending some time in Colorado with our daughter but I look forward to seeing you all "live" in October in Maitland!  In the meantime, keep stitching away!  (Have you started your holiday sewing yet?!?)

                                                               FABRIC SALE

It's that time of year again for the Great OMQG Fabric Stash Sale.
Here's how it works:

    1. Gather your (fat quarters or larger) fabric scraps to donate
   2. We'll collect your patterns, books and notions too!
3. Mark the fabric with it's size
          4. Bring your items to the October meeting at Maitland Community Outdoor Park
         5. Place your items on the appropriate table
                                       6. SHOP

"Solar Flare" Quilt-A-Long

The group had a great meeting in August.   Here is what we learned from each other:

When sewing strips together,
- Find the middle of the strip and match up/pin - then work your way out with the pinning process
- Use skinny (blue head) pins to improve accuracy
- Shorten the stitch length and use scant 1/4" seam when sewing
- Alternate the direction of sewing the strips
- Press your seams open

Next meeting is Thursday, September 9, at 2pm
on Zoom – see you there!

Upcoming meetings:

September 9 at 2:00 pm
October 4 at 7:00 pm

      COMMUNITY OUTREACH REPORT

      FESTIVAL OF TREES
Looking for a group of volunteers to design and make this years Orlando Museum of Art Festival Of Trees quilt. The theme for the festival this year is Sparkling Through the Holidays. For years the guild has donated a quilt for the FESTIVAL OF TREES. It is always hung in a place of honor and a big hit with festival attendees. The raffle tickets help to fund the great work of the museum. If you are interested in helping please contact me.

The beautiful donation to last year's Festival of Trees .
It raised several thousand dollars for the museum !
It's such a tradition, the attendees always look forward to the Orlando MQG quilt

Rene Martinez graciously donated her pattern , Peace
You can fnd the pattern here

      QUILTCON COMMUNITY OUTREACH CHALLENGE
We did not participate in the Quitcon Challenge last year due to COVID. It will take a committee of members if we wish to participate this year. The theme this year is “Angles” using at least two colors from a citrus inspired palette. Further details for the Challenge Quilt can be found on the Modern Quilt Guild web site. If you are interested in helping with the Quiltcon quilt
      please contact me.

      MONTHLY EXCHANGE DAYS

I plan to continue Exchange Days at
The Sewing Studio in Maitland parking lot

as long as we are not able to meet in person. Just like regular, in-person meetings you can hand in any completed projects that you may have. I will see that they are passed on to the proper persons.

Currently we are collecting Incubator Covers, Taggies, Pillowcases, Placemats and Draw String Bags. I will also collect any Library Books that you wish to hand in. Pre-cut placemat batting, made from batting scraps, is also available for anyone looking to make placemats.

A Special Thanks to all of the members who have generously been sewing up a storm this year. We may be meeting by Zoom but the donated finished items have been coming in steadily each month.
